I talk to potential employees everyday and the one thing that I consistently run into is a lack of goals or knowing what they want for their future. When asked about if he planned on furthering his education in the future one applicant with a GED replied, ”I’m smart enough”. Well obviously not because he had been unemployed for an extended period of time and with the attitude he exhibited he should plan on an even longer period of time in the unemployed status.

• Be friendly and cordial on the phone
• Say yes sir, no sir, yes mam and no mam (For those who weren’t taught simple manners)
• Say thank you
• When asked questions about career goals have at least a slight idea of where you would like to be. Hint:  (Employers are looking for highly motivated people that want to move up believe it or not)
• Never tell potential employer, ”I don’t plan on furthering my education, I’m smart enough” unless you don’t want that particular job in the first place. Say instead, ”If it’s required I would pursue further education

Simple manners will take you a long ways in helping you to obtain employment. The people I have run across lately calling on the phone scare me because they are our future. I like to look at things on a very positive note however some of the people I speak with are making it very difficult to maintain a positive outlook on the future of this country.

Instead of just letting life happen to you you also might want to consider sitting down and contemplating where life is taking you versus where you want to go. Life goes by fast, at almost lightning speed. You need to slow down and look at things around you, talk to the ones you love more one on one, set goals for things you and your family would like to do. Plan these things out with your family. Design your life instead of just letting it design you.

Are You A Wondering Generality?

I speak to people everyday about their employment status and verify their applications for employers. When I get to the question we have to ask of every applicant, “Professionally speaking where do you see yourself in the next 3 to 5 years?”, the answers I get are absolutely astounding. It always starts with “Aaaaaahhhh well I dooonnn’t know, I haven’t really thought about it” or they’ll say “I see myself just working” aaaannnddd they actually have to ask why they aren’t having any luck finding a job.

Show You Have Some Good Raising

Are people really this ignorant all of a sudden these days? First off you never talk to a potential employer with, “yeah”, “sure”, “I guess so”. You show some respect. At least act like you have a tad bit of sense or respect, that you know how to speak to someone on a professional level anyway, even if you don’t at least pretend you do.

I absolutely cannot believe that anyone is trying to navigate through life without some idea as to where they are going. And even more shocking is the fact that these individuals actually wonder why they haven’t gone further in life or complain that people who have a lot are lucky and that they are treated so bad. No they are not lucky, they just have a goal and know exactly what they want and where they are going and therefore they reach their goal through hard work on top of knowing where they are going.

Do You Want To Be A Meaningful Specific?

Listen, if you want to be a wondering generality as Zig Ziglar says rather than a meaningful specific then that is your business, however the issue comes in when you complain about your lot in life and yet not only are you not willing to work as hard or spend as much time working on your craft as someone who is more successful but you aren’t even willing to take the time to plan juuussstt a little bit where you want to be in life in a few years.

You Have A Target Whether You Know It Or Not

You will hit your target no matter what it is. Whether you just want a regular job and don’t see yourself accomplishing anything significant or you see yourself being highly successful in your field maybe in a management position or owning your own company. It takes just as much energy to dream little as it does to dream big so why not just go ahead and dream big?

Are You Happy Living In Squalor or Just Being Average?

I realize some people are truly happy with being average and although there is nothing wrong with that because after all it is your life, there is something wrong with complaining about it afterwards when that is the path you’ve chosen to trod down. Look, if you don’t want anything more and you don’t wish to have goals and a real life fine but don’t expect those that do choose to excel to do less because you feel it isn’t fair because it isn’t being handed to you. The world doesn’t owe you squat. You owe it to yourself and your family to make big things happen in yours and their lives.

Without a goal you have no target to hit. However as stated earlier you will still hit something but it will just be whatever comes your way. Don’t let life just happen to you blowing around like a leaf in the wind. Design your life and make something happen by setting the proper goals. Put some big dreams into action.

 I imagine you’ve heard about the law of attraction lately. It is featured in a book called The Secret. Actually it really isn’t such a secret after all. The Bible talks about this law quite a bit as a matter of fact. Basically the law is you attract what you think about most. I personally believe that this is exactly what happens to everyone.

     If you say ”Man I can’t seem to get out of debt. I need to do something about all this debt that I have.” What are you focused on? Debt of course and according to this law you are going to get more debt because that is what you are focused on most. You first have to change what you think about to change what happens to you and what you get more of.

     For instance if you don’t want more debt and what you want is more money to pay the debt then you would have to focus on more money. You might say to yourself instead, ”I am receiving more money all the time”, ”Money comes to me frequently and easily”, Like one of the speakers in The Secret movie says ”it will seem like a lie at first” but then something strange happens.

     After doing this for a while, especially if you can keep at it with a little bit of faith and belief behind it you will start to attract the things that you are thinking and talking about such as more money, more success and whatever else you might want.

Action Must Follow Thinking

     William James, known as the father of American psychology, found that feelings followed action. Another words if you act the way you want to feel that soon you will feel that way. Breath deep and imagine feeling how you would feel if you were in the optimal state and happy and by physically acting out these feelings you will then produce this positive result.

      The law of attraction in and of itself would be almost uselessexcept for the fact that action is what makes it all come together. You must first take action on what you want. You can’t just wish something to be true and it is. You must first take action towards the goal you desire and then put your thoughts to work to help attract the circumstances and situations needed to accomplish the goal.

     I know many people who work themselves to the bone only to realize very moderate or little success. Then there are others, and I am sure you know of some too, who don’t work near as hard as some others do and yet they have a high degree of success compared.

     I challenge you to try this for a while. Change the way process information in your cranium, renew the thoughts bouncing around in there. I know people who say they’ve tried something but it doesn’t work after an hour or a day or so and then you find out they had a fleeting thought or two and that was about it. I mean give it a fair chance. Think like a winner, good positive thoughts for a month.

Feed Your Sub-Conscious Mind and Develop Anchors

     Studies have found that the sub-conscious mind cannot tell the difference between something ​real and something vividly imagined. Imagine already having the thing or situation you desire and while in that state and feeling at the peak, feeling the best you can feel, clench your fist or give yourself the thumbs up, something that will create an anchor so that every time you are feeling down you can not only change your thinking but now you can clench you fist or give yourself that thumbs up again and instantly you will start having those good feelings all over again.

     You do this and I guarantee will start seeing positive results and you will reach your goals anddreams much faster than you ever thought possible.

Be Careful of Your Associations, Who Do You Allow Into Your Mind

This is probably one of the most important rules and yet seems to be the most ignored of all. You cannot take someone who’s thoughts are poison, who likes to down others, tell you why your ideas won’t work and who is an all around negative influence and pull them up if they don’t want to be pulled up. They will pull you down is what will happen.

     You have a choice, maybe not an easy one if it’s a family member or long time friend we are talking about here. You must stop hanging around this individual on a regular basis. The choice is difficult but necessary.

     Once you quit allowing them to poison your life with their negative thoughts and influence even if that means not hanging around them anymore and then you start replacing them with more positive and supportive friends you will feel like a new person more empowered than ever before.

     I am not advocating divorce if it’s a spouse which is the case a lot of the time however you do need to take control. You owe it to you and your family to accomplish yours and their dreams and goals. Just try this and I promise your life will change for the better.

     You will slip back into negativity occasionally but get a mentor, one who cares about and supports you and who is a positive influence. Switch gears back to positive when you feel yourself falling back into your old ways and soon it will become easier and easier to stay positive.

     As you develop new habits there will be more and more time between lapses back into the negative until soon you will be able to maintain these positive thoughts and feelings on a more regular basis.

     Do this and I know you will reach your dreams and goals  much sooner than you ever thought possible and just maybe even reach heights you didn’t think you could reach.
